CAROL D’ANGELO

Carol D’Angelo grew up in Southern California and attended Chouinard School of Art in Los Angeles.  She took two years off and lived in Italy studying the language and art.  In 1969, D’Angelo moved to Hawaii where she finished her BFA and obtained both an MFA in 1974 and a Masters in American Studies in 1993 from the University of Hawaii.  Soon after she embarked on a very successful teaching career at both Honolulu Community College and the University of Hawaii.

D’Angelo’s career includes teaching art in the art department at Honolulu Community College, the Kamehameha Schools and at the Honolulu Museum of Arts. During this period, D’Angelo also did freelance art work for clients such as Jeans Warehouse and Cintas Uniform.

Carol D’Angelo was an instructor in the Apparel Product Design and Merchandising Program at the University of Hawaii at Manoa and was also the curator of the Historic Costume Collection within the department. Carol has since returned to teaching Fashion Sketching at Honolulu Community College Fashion Technology Dept.

Carol has also pursued a life long career as a fine artist. Her work includes oil on canvas paintings and mixed media drawings.  Her artwork reflects Hawaii and its rich imagery incorporating elements from the past.  She has exhibited her artwork extensively.  In 1974, the State Foundation on Culture and the Arts commissioned D’Angelo for a mural in the U.H. Campus Center and has also been in the Artists of Hawaii exhibition at the Honolulu Museum of Art in 1974 and 1978. She has many artworks in both private and corporate collections including the State Foundation.

In 1995, Carol and her husband Dexter Doi began collaborative exhibitions until they started their business, Ecolicious in 2008. The business is currently rebranded as Doi & DʻAngelo, with the emphasis on new fine art exhibitions and higher end products.
