Wendy Roberts is a Hawaii-based oil painter whose work blends painterly realism with a passion for storytelling and conservation. Raised in an artistic family, Wendy began painting under the guidance of her father, quadriplegic artist Wendell Johnson, who instilled in her not only the technical skills of oil painting but also a deep appreciation for perseverance and creativity.
After earning a BA in Fine Arts and developing professional-level multimedia design skills, Wendy moved across six states in ten years before settling on Oahu in 2010 with her husband and two daughters. Returning to the easel, she has since established herself as a professional oil painter, incorporating precious metal leafing into her work for added dimension and richness.
Wendy’s art is diverse, from landscapes celebrating Hawaii’s wild spaces to imaginative portraiture and figurative works. A strong advocate for conservation, she frequently features Hawaii’s indigenous forest birds, creating gem-like compositions that raise awareness about the delicate beauty of these endangered species. Accompanied by educational text, her work encourages viewers to connect with and support preservation efforts.
An active member of Hawaii’s art community, Wendy has exhibited extensively on Oahu, organized group shows, and served on the boards of Windward Artists Guild and Association of Hawaii Artists. Her award-winning work is held in private collections across the U.S.
For Hawaii’s commercial clients, Wendy’s paintings offer a unique blend of artistry and advocacy, transforming spaces with beauty, meaning, and a connection to the natural world.
