DEXTER DOI

Dexter Doi is a Hawaii-born artist whose career seamlessly blends fine art and commercial design, offering clients a unique perspective rooted in both creativity and precision. With a foundation in drawing and painting developed through early programs at the Honolulu Academy of Arts, Doi pursued his passion for art at the University of Hawaii, eventually establishing a successful commercial art career. His early roles, including Art Director at McInerny Department Store, set the stage for his dynamic approach to visual storytelling.

In 1981, Doi moved to New York City, where he worked as a freelance artist for major clients such as J.C. Penney while studying at the historic Art Students League of New York. Under the mentorship of renowned painters like David Leffel, he refined his craft and evolved the distinct style that defines his work today.

Returning to Hawaii in 1987, Doi resumed his commercial career, collaborating with brands such as Liberty House and Gems while earning accolades for his fine art. His Best of Show award at the 1992 Association of Hawaii Artists exhibition solidified his decision to focus on fine art, leading to numerous awards and exhibitions. His projects include the Hawaii Five-O 30th Anniversary poster and the American Savings Bank Calendar.

Today, Doi’s work can be found in the State Foundation Collection, the Honolulu Museum of Art, and private and corporate collections. Through his rebranded business, Doi & DʻAngelo, he merges fine art and high-end product design, offering commercial clients bespoke visuals that elevate spaces and brands.
